The electronic fan system of the HONDA ODYSSEY 2005-2010 model adopts a typical dual fan design, consisting of two independent fans responsible for engine cooling and air conditioning system heat dissipation. This design is more common in Japanese MPVs and can effectively balance heat dissipation requirements and spatial layout.
Fan motor and control system
Motor design: Adopting a three wire control design (high-speed wire, low-speed wire, and negative wire), high and low-speed switching is achieved through different resistance values. The motor adopts a sealed bearing design inside to adapt to the high temperature environment of the engine compartment.
Control module: Integrated temperature sensor signal processing function, receiving instructions from ECU (engine control unit). The control module is located in the fuse box on the left side of the engine compartment, adjacent to the fan relay.
Installation position: Two fans are installed side by side behind the radiator to form a forced convection cooling system. The main fan (near the engine side) is responsible for engine cooling, while the auxiliary fan (near the front grille side) is mainly responsible for cooling the air conditioning system.
Physical Structure and Connection
Fan blades: Adopting asymmetric design of plastic blades, with a quantity of 9 pieces, this design can effectively reduce noise during high-speed operation.
Installation bracket: Made of high-strength plastic material, fixed to the radiator frame with four rubber shock absorbers to reduce vibration transmission.
Wire harness connector: Adopting waterproof design (IP67 rating) to ensure reliable connection in harsh environments of the engine compartment. Connector color coding: Black is the grounding wire, blue is the low-speed control wire, and red is the high-speed control wire.
The main changes to HONDA ODYSSEY's electronic fan system from 2005 to 2010 include:
2006 minor facelift:
Optimized the shape of the fan blades and changed the blade tips to a serrated design, reducing wind noise by about 15% during high-speed operation.
Changed the lubrication method of motor bearings from grease lubrication to oil lubrication, extending their service life.
Updated in 2008:
Improved the control algorithm, reducing the current surge during fan startup by about 30% and minimizing the issue of relay contact erosion.
Updated the wiring harness material and adopted a more heat-resistant insulation layer, solving the aging problem of wiring harnesses in early models.
Compatibility Description:
All models of electronic fan modules have consistent physical interfaces and can be directly interchanged.
But the improved fan assembly produced after 2008 is not recommended for use in the 2005-2007 models, as it may cause ECU to report fault codes due to current differences.
